Selecting Nursery Furniture

Meticulous planning is necessary before choosing necessary furniture for the baby.  Apart from the utility aspects, the pieces of furniture intended for the nursery should be attractive and safe. The baby should be able to enjoy its comforts too.

Before furnishing the nursery, it is important to clean up the room and paint the walls with pleasing colours. The walls can be adorned with pictures of animals or birds which fascinate the young mind. The colours and designs of the decorations should go hand in hand.

At the outset, make a list of items required, keeping in mind the budget allocated for the purpose. Options are many for parents. Attractive and colourful nursery furniture can be used to suit the ambience of the room. Many different designs and styles of such furniture are available in the market.

Generally, the items required are bassinet, crib, rocking chair, baby hammock, stroller, perambulator, high chair, baby carrier etc.  Many of these items come in different models. For instance, the latest version is a rocking crib. Some of them are foldable and can be converted into a rocking form. There are cribs which can be converted into a toddler bed at a later stage if necessary.

Multi level bassinets are very often used for storage of napkins, diapers, clothing and blankets. Baby hammock provides comfort to the baby, but certain safety precautions are to be taken. Nursery furniture are made of wood and metals. Good quality wood furniture are not only stable but also durable. Artistically crafted pieces designed specially for the nursery are available which add charm to the baby’s room. A comfortable perambulator made of iron and cushioned with soft materials is very much required.

As already mentioned precautions are to be taken in making the nursery furniture safe and user friendly. Every item should have a smooth finish. Sharp edges or projections should be avoided. Strings or straps in the swing or hammock should not hang loose, as there is a possibility of strangulation.  Nuts, bolts, screws and wires should be properly insulated to protect the baby from potential injuries. The mattress in the crib or bed is to be of exact size so it fits properly. Paints or polish used for the nursery furniture are to be non-toxic. Perambulator, high chair and stroller should be equipped with straps or belts to secure the baby from falling. Storage space in the nursery should be provided by installing drawers and cabinets. They are to be compact. It is important that storage furniture should not hinder the freedom of the baby to move around. The shelves or cabinets on the walls to display dolls and toys of the baby are sensible proposition, but they should not obstruct free flow of air inside the room. Many fancy wall brackets, made of wood or iron are available for the same purpose.

The furniture and the surroundings in the nursery are to be free from dust and moisture.  Periodical cleaning is very essential, not only in the interests of the baby’s health but also for the maintenance of the furniture. Furniture at affordable prices are available online. There are dealers who offer used furniture, which are remodeled or refurbished. A reliable dealer will be able to provide quality products which are durable and affordable.
